Travel Guide: Exploring Marietta, PA

Marietta is a quiet, welcoming town situated along the Susquehanna River. The town has a rich history, old world charm and beautiful views. It has quickly become one of our favorite places to staycation even just for the day. Something about the warm community, delicious food options and the call of the river, rocks and rail trails, makes Marietta the perfect place to escape to when you want to unplug and unwind.

IRISH BLESSIng & Travel Guide

In this video travel guide we share some of our favorites in and around Marietta, PA and share an Irish Travelers Blessing!

Things to Do

If you love the outdoors, there is no shortage of things to do in Marietta, PA. From the North West River Rail Trail, to the White Cliffs of Conoy, Marietta offers river views, scenic spots and plenty of outdoor adventures for cyclists, hikers, climbers, water sports and of course, wonderstruck wandering.

One of our favorite things to do (especially in the Spring and the Fall) is cycle down the rail trail. Recently, we gave โ€œBent Bikingโ€ a try by renting recumbent bikes fromย Lancaster Recumbent. To me the biggest difference in this kind of biking was the full panoramic view while riding. Being able to sit back and look out while riding felt like a completely new biking experience thatโ€™s definitely worth trying out. Another draw to the area is rock climbing, which weโ€™re excited to try out next month! To see video of our Bent Bike adventure day trip and read more of the details, clickย HERE.

OUR FAVORITE RESTAURANTS IN MARIETTA, PA

A longtime local favorite in Marietta is McClearyโ€™s Public House. Weโ€™ve eaten here at just about every time of day and tried almost everything on the menu. McClearyโ€™s is solid, and the pub menu, although it changes a bit each season, is consistently stellar. When they have pork wings on the menu, try them! In the summer, we recommend eating out back, but the enclosed patio is gorgeous and brings the outside in all year long. The award-winning Fish and Chips are always a great choice. I also love the Summer Apple Salad and the Fire Roasted Tomato Bisque is heaven, especially when thereโ€™s a chill in the air. Ask for some grilled bread on the side and youโ€™re in comfort-food utopia.

A NEW favorite is the newly renovated, under new ownership: Railroad House Inn. The Railroad House Inn has a dreamy, steampunk vibe inside with refurbished railroad cars and soft lighting, its the perfect place for a date night, girls night or family dinner. The property boasts several indoor and outdoor spaces that are each more inviting than the next and bring a nuanced vibe that sets each space apart. The menu is delicious and feels special without being stuffy. We loved the scallops, the super lump crab cakes (crab-lovers heaven) and the gouda mac and cheese most of all. The cafe lights and the sound of the river nearby give the outside spaces a welcoming glow under a star filled sky and gathering places throughout the property make you feel so welcome that you wonโ€™t want to leave. If youโ€™re hosting a group, wedding, reunion, or eventโ€ฆYouโ€™re going to want to get to know the new Railroad House Inn.

What about you? Have you been exploring in Marietta? What brings you to town?

For me, itโ€™s having adventures, soaking up the sun and supporting local business! Cheers to the small towns that welcome us and make us feel at home!
